PATRICK
THURLBY
** EVERARDS BREWERY
LOCAL HERO 2010 **
After
much anticipation, hard campaigning and many, many votes from all of Patrick's friends and Lathkil publicans, Patrick has been crowned the Everard's Brewery Tiger Bitter Local Hero 2010! The award
itself, in Everards' own words "...aims to reward unsung members of the community for their contribution and support to local causes."
Patrick has been a
huge part of the local community for many years and has held numerous and diverse jobs, in addition to becoming somewhat of a local legend in his own right. Everyone in the local area knows of
Patrick and his various activities over the years. On winning, Patrick said "I’m 73 now and I intend to continue doing as much as I can for the community for many years to come because I love
everything I do. I don’t expect to win awards for it but they are a nice added bonus."
Upon winning the title, Patrick received the prize of £500 to his favourite charity and £500 for himself. In true hero's fashion, he has added the £500 prize for himself to the overall total going to
charity.
Everards Brewery visited the Lathkil Hotel on Wednesday 30th June to present the cheques to Patrick. As usual and not wanting a big fuss made over him, Patrick was expecting a small presentation with
a couple of publicans who may have been in at the time toasting his achievement. Unbeknown to him, a great party had been organised, including a brass band summoned together by his daughter and
granddaughter. In attendance were over 150 well wishers, who enjoyed free Tiger Bitter from Everards, wonderful food and soaked up the fantastic atmosphere. The evening was a great success and was
enjoyed by all, including Patrick, whose ongoing modesty betrays the congratulations due to him.
Below we have included some of the photographs and videos taken by Everards at the evening.
